Variations on a theme… the Alabazam

Cocktails today!

Last night, catching up on blog posts, I ran across the Alabazam, and thought I’d give it a go.  The variation I tried first was Jamie Boudreau’s which is heavy on the bitters.  I like the spice notes of the bitters, so I tried his as is, and would definitely give it a thumbs up.

Second variation,I tried the Mr. Boston version (Platinum edition), however, i made a couple of changes — I upped the Angostura quotient to match the previous trial, omitted the Peychauds, and decided to subsitute Grand Marnier for Orange Curacao.  (I have searched high and low in Victoria, and can only find the blue stuff!!!).  Verdict — this version has a bit more tartness to it because of a bit more lemon juice.  I liked the warm undertones the Grand Marnier introduced, and it has lots of spice from the Angostura — like a Sidecar with a bit more complexity.  Definitely an after-dinner cocktail.
