Tonight’s TDN theme was Crystal Head Vodka. There’s been a viral video of Dan Akaroyd talking about his new crystal head vodka in a glass skull. There was some speculation that this was a marketing effort in advance of a Ghostbusters III movie, but it turns out it is actually for vodka — in a glass skull-shaped bottle!
The vodka is a Canadian product, marketed as “pure spirit from Newfoundland glacial pool water” and corn mash (peaches and cream corn to be precise)!
Well, I’m not a vodka afficionado, but I did taste a bit before starting to mix it. It is pretty clean-tasting, and would be ok as a very chilled shot. Most of the time when I use vodka in cocktails, it is to carry other more dominant flavours. The whole skull thing is pretty cool looking, although I do have one peeve — the bottle is not very easy to pour out of!
(P.S. Dan did stop by on the Mixoloseum chat room for a bit to talk about the product! and yes, there was ghostbusters talk!)
Today’s cocktail is kind of halloween-inspired, but still tasty enough to sip any other date besides Oct 31.
